Poulin Records Three Points In Two Games With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Last Week
Samuel Poulin extended a point streak to four games with a goal and a primary assist–albeit in a lopsided 10-2 loss to the Providence Bruins–for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Friday night. The 2021 first round pick missed the next game, serving a suspension issued by the AHL for a slew foot. Poulin returned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton lineup on Sunday and scored again and finished with three points in a 5-2 win over the Bridgeport Islanders. Eclipsing 31 points in 41 games last season with 37 in 49 in 2024-25, Poulin ranks fifth on the team with 18 goals.
Fernstrom Dominates With Orebro HK J20 Team After SHL Playoff Exit
After a first-round exit from the SHL playoffs with Orebro HK, Melvin Fernstrom joined the Orebro HK J20 roster and helped the team advance to the the next round in the J20 Nationell playoffs with two goals and four points in a pair of wins last week. The 2024 third round pick acquired from the Vancouver Canucks in March recorded a primary assist on the opening goal, scored the next goal and capped the game with the final goal in a 6-0 win over the AIK U20 team on Wednesday and tacked on another assist in a 4-1 win on Friday. Fernstrom leads the team with four points headed into the next round against the Frolunda J20 team starting Wednesday.
Calvert Enjoys Two-Goal Night, Finding Consistency In The AHL
After going three games without a point, Atley Calvert played a big part in a 3-2 overtime win for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins over the Hershey Bears on Saturday, scoring both regulation goals, and added the primary assist on a Chase Stillman goal in a 5-2 win over the Bridgeport Islanders the next day. After impressing with 14 goals and 36 points in 38 games with Wheeling in the ECHL to start the 2024-25 season, Calvert joined the AHL roster in late January and stuck with team, now boasting five goals and seven points through 15 games.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Opens Weekend With Ugly Loss, Wins Next Two
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins fell behind 3-0 in the first period and ultimately fell 10-2 to the Providence Bruins on Friday night, despite 44 shots on goal. Samuel Poulin scored and added a helper. Boris Katchouk scored the other Wilkes-Barre/Scranton goal, and Jack St. Ivany recorded the other assist on the goal. Filip Larsson surrendered seven goals on 25 shots, and Sergei Murashov surrendered three goals on 15 shots in relief.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton surrendered a late tying goal in regulation, but persevered in overtime in a 3-2 win over the Hershey Bears on Saturday night. Atley Calvert scored twice in regulation, and Avery Hayes scored in overtime. Filip Kral, Matt Nieto, Zach Gallant, Mathias Laferriere, Sebastian Aho, and Rutger McGroarty recorded assists. Murashov stoped 24 shots to improve to 10-0-0 in the AHL.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period of a 5-2 win over the Bridgeport Islanders on Sunday afternoon. Poulin scored and added two assists, Nieto scored and added a helper, and Valtteri Puustinen, Katchouk, and Chase Stillman added goals. Aho recorded three assists, and St. Ivany, Kral, Ville Koivunen, and Calvert all finished with helpers. Larsson stopped 22 shots in the win.
Wheeling Nailers Open Weekend With Win, Lose Next Two
The Wheeling Nailers beat the Toledo Walleye 3-2 in overtime on Friday night thanks in part to 36 saves by Taylor Gauthier. Cole Tymkin and Gabe Klassen scored in regulation, and Jordan Martel scored in overtime. Isaac Belliveau, Chrystopher Collin, Mathieu De St. Phalle, Mats Lindgren, and Logan Pietila recorded assists.
The Nailers fell apart in the second half of the game in a 6-2 loss to the Walleye the next night. Belliveau opened the scoring, and Matthew Quercia responded early in the second period after the Walleye took a 2-1 lead, but Walleye scored the next four en route to 6-2 win. Mason Salquist, Louie Roehl, and Aidan Sutter recorded assists, and Jaxon Castor surrendered six goals on 30 shots.
The Wheeling Nailers fell behind 2-0 in the first period against the Indy Fuel on Sunday and never gained any momentum in a 3-1 loss. Martel scored the lone Nailers goal off assists from Pietila and Belliveau. Gauthier stopped 18 shots in the loss.
