Projected to go closer to the end of the first round in the 2025 NHL entry draft, the Pittsburgh Penguins took Benjamin Kindel with the 11th overall pick after a strong season with the Calgary Hitmen in the WHL. Kindel finished second on the team, seventh in the league, and first among draft year players with 99 points in 65 games. Possessing the ability to score and set up plays, the Penguins obviously see Kindel as a significant part of the future of the team. Kindel looks to dominate the WHL in 2025-26, continue adding size to a 5’11”, 181 lbs. frame, and potentially represent Canada at the 2026 World Junior Championship. The Penguins arguably to a swing on Kindel, and hope a high hockey IQ and elite offensive skills showcased at the junior level translate to the NHL in a few seasons.
