AHL-Contracted Maxim Pavlenko Records Shutout In First Career AHL Start
Called into action for the first time in the AHL with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton down 4-1 after the first period, AHL-contracted goaltender Maxim Pavlenko impressed with 16 saves on 17 shots in a 6-4 loss to the Rochester Americans on Friday night. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton battled back to tie the game 4-4 in the third, but Rochester scored on the powerplay with eight minutes remaining in the game to regain the lead. Pavlenko started for the first time in the AHL the next night, making 20 saves in a 4-0 shutout win.
The undrafted goaltender from Kazakhstan signed with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the 2025 offseason. Prior to signing, Pavlenko played in the VHL, posting a .919 save percentage in 32 games over two seasons. Pavlenko garnered attention at the 2025 World Championships with a .881 save percentage on a heavily outmatched Kazakhstan team. Pavlenko likely returns to Wheeling when Tristan Jarry, Joel Blomqvist, and Taylot Gauthier return from injury.
