Prospects Of The Week

After a slower than expected start to the 2025-26 season with the Soo Greyhounds in the OHL, Travis Hayes recorded eight points over four games, including three points in a lopsided 11-2 win over the Oshawa Generals on Friday night. The 2025 fourth round pick gave the Greyhounds 3-0 and 7-1 leads and added a primary assist on the sixth Sault Ste. Marie goal. Hayes went without a point in a 7-3 win over the Sarnia Sting on Sunday and currently ranks seventh on the team with 22 points in 28 games.

Hayes recorded 51 points in 64 games last season and hopes for a more consistent backhalf of the season as Sault Ste. Marie–currently fourth place in the Western Conference–looks to stay firmly in the playoff race.

Catching the attention of the organization last season with 23 goals and 42 points in 60 games with the Wikes-Barre/Scranton Penguins last season and earning a contract with Pittsburgh, Avery Hayes started the 2025-26 season hot but cooled down and missed some time due to injury in November. The undrafted forward hopes kicking off December with three points in a 6-2 win over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms leads to more consistency with about a third of the season gone. Hayes gave Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a 4-1 lead with a greasy goal at the end of the second period sandwiched between two assists. Hayes ranks sixth on the team with 12 points in 17 games and ranks second on the team–behind only Boko Imama–with 27 penalty minutes.

Fighting for ice time as a freshman on a talented Boston University Terriers blueline, Charlie Trethewey scored for the first time at the NCAA level–and the eventual game winner–in a 2-1 win over the Vermont Catamounts on Friday night. The 2025 third round pick ranks fourth among blueliners on the team with four points in 17 games. Trethewey ranked fourth on the United States National Team Development Program U18 team last season with 20 points in 63 games.

Boston University, so far, failed to live up to high expectations coming into the 2025-26 season with a 8-8-1 record after advancing to the NCAA Frozen Four Championship game last season and losing to Western Michigan. The Terriers currently rank sixth in the Hockey East Conference.
