Catching the attention of the organization last season with 23 goals and 42 points in 60 games with the Wikes-Barre/Scranton Penguins last season and earning a contract with Pittsburgh, Avery Hayes started the 2025-26 season hot but cooled down and missed some time due to injury in November. The undrafted forward hopes kicking off December with three points in a 6-2 win over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms leads to more consistency with about a third of the season gone. Hayes gave Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a 4-1 lead with a greasy goal at the end of the second period sandwiched between two assists. Hayes ranks sixth on the team with 12 points in 17 games and ranks second on the team–behind only Boko Imama–with 27 penalty minutes.
